Immigration Arrests Portuguese Fugitive in Brutal Murder in South Jakarta

JAKARTA — The Directorate General of Immigration at the Ministry of Immigration and Correctional Services has apprehended a Portuguese citizen with the initials MG (Pr, 30), who is a fugitive in a premeditated murder case in his country. The arrest was made by a joint team from the Directorate General of Immigration and the South Jakarta Immigration Office, along with the Interpol Indonesia SES NCB team, on Thursday (March 5, 2026).
The arrest began when immigration intelligence received information that MG was going to the South Jakarta Immigration Office to process his immigration documents. The joint team then closely monitored the location since morning. At exactly 10:00 a.m. Western Indonesian Time, MG arrived at the location and was immediately detained by officers as he completed the administrative process and was about to head to his vehicle.
This arrest follows a request for assistance in the arrest and detention of MG, a subject of the Interpol Red Notice, issued by the Indonesian National Police's International Relations Division on February 24, 2026. Acting Director General of Immigration, Yuldi Yusman, explained the chronology of MG's arrival in Indonesia.
"MG first arrived in Indonesia on June 10, 2025, before the European Court of Human Rights decision was issued. MG used a visit residence permit for two months before finally using a Remote Worker limited residence permit, which expired on July 8, 2026," Yuldi explained.
According to international police records, MG was involved in a brutal murder case in Algoz, Portugal, in March 2020. He and his accomplices allegedly committed the premeditated murder of a man identified as DG to seize the victim's compensation money, which amounted to €70,000. The modus operandi was quite cruel, including drugging, strangulation, and even mutilating the victim's body parts to access banking data on his phone before dumping the body into the sea.
"The security process went smoothly and smoothly. Currently, the person concerned has been taken to the Directorate General of Immigration for further examination and detention. MG's deportation will take place on Monday, March 9, 2026," Yuldi concluded.
