The Director General of Immigration urged staff to focus on their work and eliminate inappropriate old work practices.

JAKARTA — The Director General of Immigration, Hendarsam Marantoko, urged all levels of the Directorate General of Immigration to implement concrete steps (action plans) to improve the integrity of public services. This was conveyed during a briefing to all Immigration officers throughout Indonesia and Immigration Attachés at Indonesian Representative Offices, held via hybrid mode at the Directorate General of Immigration Hall on Tuesday (June 9, 2026).
"We fully hand over the ongoing legal process to law enforcement officers (APH). Starting this week, I ask all levels to refocus on their duties, functions, and established programs. Service to the public must run optimally," he said.
Hendarsam acknowledged that this crisis has been one of the biggest blows to the organization. However, he urged this momentum to be used as a time for total reflection to eliminate past inappropriate work practices and cultures.
"Times have changed, and the demands of today's society have changed. There is no privilege for anyone to commit violations," Hendarsam emphasized.
He emphasized that the function of public servants is directly related to the public, making them highly vulnerable to complaints and criticism. This vulnerability must be addressed by strengthening the mentality of the apparatus to respond to every complaint quickly and transparently. He stated that the Directorate General of Immigration possesses superior human resources, but this capacity must be accompanied by strong integrity so that the organization can stand on its feet again.
Hendarsam emphasized that Immigration's primary focus is to bridge the gap with the public. Any form of social jealousy or negative public perception must be addressed with a change in attitude and a concrete commitment to service.
"The idea of 'Immigration for the People' was born because we must get closer to the public and close the gap. Our focus now is to demonstrate that commitment, regain public trust, and ensure that every Immigration effort truly benefits the public," concluded the Director General of Immigration.
